I am a computational biologist and mathematician by training. I entered scientific research hoping to develop a new language by which to understand how nature computes, adapts and responds to radical perturbations, challenging notions of deterministic or hierarchical decision making in living systems.
What has always fascinated me is the incredible plasticity of living matter; its capacity to regenerate, self-organize, heal, and continually reinvent itself in response to shifting, sometimes catastrophic, conditions. I do not see these qualities as fundamentally separate from the structures humans create. Rather, I am drawn to imagining a future in which our products, environments, language and technologies embody the same adaptive nature.
This is a possibility I explore through my artistic practice. My work attempts to bring attention to the intelligence and plasticity inherent in living systems while rekindling a relationship of empathy, reciprocity, and care. Moving beyond viewing life as a resource at our disposal and toward understanding ourselves as inscribed, participating within a larger ecology of becoming. Speculative design is how I formulate research questions. My long-term goal is to translate those questions into experimentally grounded biological technologies that reshape how we manufacture, construct, and coexist with living systems.
